We have two children under four and consequently we don't do multiple-hour line-ups that have been coming out for the likes of Sochi House, Atlantic House, and other popular venues during the Olympics.
And yet we have still managed to have a blast!
Walking around downtown for the people watching alone constitutes a good four hours. A couple of the "Houses" have also been blessed with little to no line-ups. We wandered Yaletown yesterday, and Italia House offered little crowds, free wine and cheese, and an air-hockey table sponsored by Kinder (perfect!!!) to park the three-year-old at while Mom and Dad sipped their wine and nibbled their cheese. And as long as you didn't want the 4-D Experience, Ontario House also held neat cooking demonstrations with the Olsons and free samplers of nosh and ice wine. The "Right To Play" tent held by-donation games of Plinko for cool prizes, and free activities for the kids.
Granville Island (by way of the cool Belgian tram) also holds regular activities and regular prices plus the added advantage of free art exhibits, parades at 1730, and a giant open-air stage at Place de la Francophonie. As long as you steer clear of the $8 Poutine, it's a great deal!
Throughout all of these activities, we have lined up for a maximum of five minutes at any one of them, and in most cases, there has been no lineup at all!
This city is going to be awfully quiet come Monday!
